Shakerley Mere

Shakerley Mere is a 17-acre former sand quarry renowned for its specimen carp fishing, with carp up to 30lb alongside large bream, roach, and perch.

About this venue

  • Shakerley Mere is a shallow 17-acre lake set in a country park. This former sand quarry is popular amongst specimen carp anglers due to the excellent head of large carp it contains. It produces fish to around 30lbs with plenty of good-sized back-up fish. Other species in the mere include large shoals of specimen bream and roach and perch in excess of 4lb.

Venue rules

Due to strict new conditions imposed by Cheshire West and Chester Council, the following rules now apply at Shakerley Mere:


  1. Fishing is only permitted from designated pegs.
  2. Barbless hooks only.
  3. No groundbait.
  4. Hookbaits only – boilies, pellets and feeders are prohibited.
  5. No bait boats.
  6. No wading.
  7. Fishing is permitted from dawn until dusk only.
  8. All anglers must leave the venue clean and tidy.
  9. Audible bite alarms must be kept at a respectful volume and anglers must show consideration to local residents.
  10. All anglers must carry some form of toilet facility. Failure to do so will result in being asked to leave the venue with no refund.
  11. All fish must be returned to the water. Lymm Angling Club operates a strict catch and release policy.



 Failure to comply with these rules may result in you being asked to leave the venue and may affect the Club’s future access to the fishery
